House and Grounds
Hilltop House was built in 1868 by Richards Bradley to demonstrate his
suitability as a husband for his bride-to-be. The beautifully appointed
Victorian home exemplifies the outstanding craftsmanship of the era.
The original entrance way is dominated by a spiral staircase. 12-foot
high ceilings of cast plaster distinquish the living room and formal
dining room. It is a pleasure to reside in such gracious surroundings.
Each room at the Hilltop House provides spacious quarters to furnish and decorate according to each resident's personal preferences. Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture if they wish. Otherwise, Hilltop House is happy to supply furnishings. Most rooms offer adjoining private baths and plenty of closet space. Suites are available for individuals or couples.
The grounds of Hilltop House offer a quiet, scenic setting overlooking the Connecticut River. There are attached patios for outdoor sitting and socializing and a gazebo with views of Mount Wantastaquit. Walking is an important activity for many of the Hilltop House residents. As such, we offer a circular walkway around the north lawn in addition to easy access to Harris Avenue and the town common.
